The brief: Develop a customised nationally recognised training program to support core business outcomes and talent retention. Client also sought to gain greater understanding of its specific employee roles. Key outcomes for the client were a strong internal hire rate and enhanced internal career opportunities. The client considered delivery of nationally recognised industry and job-specific employee training as pivotal to achieving these objectives.ATEL was required to secure strong employee buy-in and deliver training without significant disruption to DHL Express business operations. ATEL training was to be rolled out across all DHL facilities, including many 24/7 operations.
The strategy: Conduct a training needs analysis specific to DHL Express. ATEL commenced such analysis with all entry-level roles and tracked through employee development requirements for individual career lifecycles within the organisation. Such tracking mapped delivery of higher level qualifications on an ‘as need be’ basis. ATEL subsequently customised a training schedule and assigned a dedicated trainer to work across all DHL Express national sites.
The result: ATEL has now delivered some 400 full qualifications to DHL Express employees nationwide. One such DHL Express staff member was awarded ACT Trainee of the Year 2014 and was a 2014 Australian Trainee of the Year finalist at the national awards.
