HIRING AN ATEL APPRENTICE FAQ
By leasing an apprentice through ATEL, you can hand your apprentice back. ATEL attracts thousands of young people each year wanting an apprenticeship. We will find the right person for you. What value do you place on lost productivity?
You may return your apprentice/trainee to ATEL by giving one weeks notice. If you choose to hand your apprentice back, ATEL will endeavour to rotate him/her with another host employer. ATEL has over 650 apprentices placed with over 350 host employers. This increases the chances of the apprentice finishing his or her apprenticeship, and in some instances, allows for a variation of work places. When employing an apprentice yourself, there is a commitment to provide at least 38 hrs of work per week. Will you have enough work to pay for your apprentice if there is downturn? You can also Job Share an apprentice - this allows the apprentice to gain valuable experience with 2 or more host employers, and more importantly in these uncertain times, allow the apprentice to finish their apprenticeship.
ATEL has a comprehensive selection process. Before we select an apprentice for you we ensure we get a good brief from you regarding the type of person you need. We then commence a comprehensive recruitment process. All applicants are screened, aptitude tested and reference checked. You have the option to conduct final interviews should you choose this option.
Your Workcover annual premium may increase if your apprentice makes a substantial claim against you. When you employ an ATEL apprentice or trainee, all workers compensation claims are met by us. Risk is therefore mitigated.
During the lease the apprentice/trainee becomes your employee just like any other. You enjoy all the benefits without the associated administration paperwork and bureaucracy. Our specialist staff are available to provide expert assistance while you maintain control of the apprentice/trainee within your work environment.
We monitor the progress of the apprentice/trainee with particular attention given to their off-the-job training. In consultation with you timely employment counselling is provided to overcome potential problems. This process assists you to maintain a productive workplace and ensures the apprentice/trainee achieves their full potential.
We have made our leasing system as simple as possible. ATEL employs the apprentices and trainees and pays their weekly wages. Apprentices are charged at an hourly leasing rate that includes wages, annual leave, sick leave, public holidays, workers compensation, protective clothing and superannuation. Similarly for traineeships our flat weekly charge covers all costs of employment. There are no other charges.
New Occupational Health and Safety legislation requires ATEL and Host Employers to comply with duty of care responsibilities. For all new host employers ATEL will provide a fully compliant Occupational Health and Safety management system as part of our standard services. This means when you sub-contract to major clients, or when you are required to submit a tender, you will be O&HS compliant.
In recognition of our host employers we offer an incentive of $150 per referral to any new employer who takes on an apprentice through ATEL’s Group Training Services. It’s as easy as that. Your good words to other potential host employers regarding our services is the best form of endorsement we could receive. Here’s what to do to claim your incentive:
Introduce the potential host employer to your Field Officer. The Field Officer will co-ordinate the recruitment, selection and placement of an apprentice, into the employers organisation. Once the placement with the new Host Employer has taken place, your Field Officer will arrange a $150 cheque to be sent to you through ATEL’s payroll department. Alternatively we can arrange to credit your nominated account.
